Prizes: 5 winners 'Tickets to the Play To Kill a Mocking Bird'
Till: 7 Mar 2010

Ripe with attitude, Goh Boon Teck's delirious imagination has descended on one of literary history's most perfect stories ever written, To Kill A Mocking Bird. This stylized and unconventional adaptation features a strong multi-racial cast of veterans and promising actors from both television and theatre. Aggressively modern and assertively trendy, audiences will be treated to a visual pastiche inspired by the coexistence of good and evil, and the simplicity of light and dark. While taking artistic liberties in its staging, the issues of class, courage, compassion and prejudice, explored in the book remain fundamental. To Kill A Mocking Bird will intoxicate with its gritty and intense look at human behavior, gone wrong.

Based on Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel published in 1960 and directed by renowned director Goh Boon Teck (recipient of Singapore Youth Award for Arts & Culture 2005), To Kill a Mocking Bird will be running from 26 February 2010 - 21 March 2010 at the National Library Building's Drama Centre Theatre, and is one play you would not want to miss.

Here is another 'next big thing' for you, and treat for fans of all ages. It's been a whirlwind couple of years for The Fray, the Denver-based quartet whose earnest and melodic songs have been striking a huge chord with audiences around the world. Their debut album How to Save a Life (2005), featured the massive single of the same name which charted in the top three of the Billboard Hot 100 and was also a top 5 single in Canada, Australia, Ireland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. But formed in 2002 by Isaac Slade (vocals, piano) and Joe King (guitar, vocals), The Fray owed all of their early success to their organic, grassroots beginnings. In other words, they did it the old fashioned way: they earned it. It's a story you don't hear much anymore these days: local area gigs led to enthusiastic local press and local radio support. Of course, the band's second album simply called The Fray, followed suit in 2009 and peaked at the number one spot on the Billboard charts selling 179,000 copies in its first week!
