Ja Rule, otherwise known as Jeffery Atkins, began his rap career in 1994 with Cash Money Click. His stage name "Ja Rule" came from a friend. In 1995, he made his first appearance on Mic Geronimo's "Time to Build" which featured Jay-Z and DMX, who were also in their early stages of their careers. Signed to The Inc, Ja Rule released an album a year from 1999 to 2004 and was nominated and won countless awards, having his best year in 2002 where he won MTV Video Music Awards Best Hip-Hop Video for "I'm Real (Murder Remix)"; the World Music Awards for World's Best-Selling Rap Artist; BET Awards for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist; Artist GQ Men of the Year Award for Musician of the Year; Teen Choice Awards for Male Artist of the Year and the NAACP Image Awards for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist. Now signed under Universal Records, The Mirror is Ja Rule's latest album, after a short hiatus.
